Shine Your Light
When I was 17, I saw a woman on the Paris Metro. She looked sad and exhausted, and I had an overwhelming rush of sympathy for her. I believe she felt it, because she looked up directly at me, and as our eyes met, we both burst into smiles.
I think of that moment, and of the spark of our connection every time I paint one of these pieces. The grandeur of that woman's spirit so outweighed any sorrow or fatigue I might have seen. And the fullness in my heart at making that connection has stayed with me through nearly fifty years.
These paintings are created as portraits, with rough stones standing in for each of us, and the painting I surround them with my attempt to portray our true magnificence.
Let your light shine, oh people!
